It's unfortunate, but the much-reviled media really did a number on those of us who feel it is important to be prepared for a survival incident or situation.

We were painted as nutty because we wanted to be prepared, even after major disasters like hurricane Katrina showed exactly how unprepared and vulnerable we are as a populace.

Even the federal government recommends everyone be prepared to go a few days without power and our normal infrastructure.

Still, if you are survival minded or even are just thinking about it, chances are very good you can find someone influenced by the media into thinking preparation for a natural or man-made disaster is nuts, or worse, a waste of time.
