Okay, steel wool on a windshield is a horrible idea. That's what everybody with common sense knows without a doubt. But keep an open mind and you'll find that that is not exactly correct.
Using superfine steel wool is actually a well-known windshield-cleaning trick among car detailers, and it makes their lives a lot easier because it works.
Their time is valuable, because the faster they can get done polishing the dead bugs from your window, the faster they can get moving on to the next vehicle, and the more money they can make.
So keeping that in mind, isn't your time valuable, too?

Boy scouts taught me that a 9 volt battery and steel wool will start a fire. Hold battery to steel wool and watch your fire start. Easy and cheap. Lesson to survival.

Certainly not what I’m looking to learn from “Die Hard Survivor”. Teach us how to keep a vehicle running after SHTF and gasoline is not available. Don’t really think the cleanliness of a car that can’t be driven is something that anyone gives a$#%&!@*about.
Tried this and it works great.
Don’t do it with rusted steel wool, use brand new stuff. Steel wool oxidation is slightly harder than glass and will scratch the shlt out of it.
Make sure its 0000

0000 steel won’t scratch outside glass or chrome . but don’t set it on fire you can put it out
Polish/clean with 0000 Steel wool and then apply RainX and couple times and nothing sticks. All you need is plain water to clean your windshield after doing that.
It cleans your windshield like nothing else. I’ve been doing this since I was old enough to drive, 44 years sgo!

I work as a painter in a auto body shop. We have boxs of steel wool. Mainly for over spray, sap, and any other crap that will stick to glass. Razor blades work but steel wool is the best to clean glass.
If you use 0000 steel wool it will actually clean up small scratches in mirrors!

This is an old trick to make your windows pop! Used by car enthusiasts and car shows and used car lots!
Come up with some stuff we could actually use for surviving, not cleaning a windshield
DONT DO IT it will damage you window
I prefer an angle grinder with a cutting disc, much quicker
Oh and before you rub it spray your window with WD 40 . It will make it move faster
You obviously don’t know how hard it is to get dried blood off a windshield!!!! Can’t drive if you can’t see. 🙂

If you use new 0000 it works perfect. Use it on all of our vehicles.
New 0000 will not scratch. Age old technique with car show guys. Works great
000 steel wool is the only way we cleaned windshields at a dealership. Keeps wiper blades from chattering
