Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know when the filter is full?
The flow of water will slow down. However, it will never fail. Once the filter starts to slow down simply backwash it and it will be as good as new.
Is this good for kids at camp?
Yes! It is easy and safe. It couldn't be more perfect! Its small, lightweight and priced so that everyone can have their own filter. It doesn't need all the small parts and accessories of first generation filters to move from a hydration pack to a bottle to a pouch. It has it all!

Can I put the filter inline on my hydration pack?
Yes, connectors for your hydration pack hose are built into the filter.

Can I put the filter on a different / smaller bottle?
As long as the bottle has a “standard” thread you can. Most soda and disposable water bottles made worldwide use this thread.

How often should I clean the filter?
For longer filter life, you should backwash and sanitize the filter after every outing.

If I backwash it, will the bacteria in the city water grow in the filter?
Sawyer recommends sanitizing the filter before storing it. If you backwash the filter and then use it, bacteria from the city water will not grow.

Is it going to get clogged while I'm out on a trip?
Even with very high particulate /turbid water you should get 5 to 10 gallons through the filter. If this is not enough water for your trip you should either plan on field backwashing your filter.

It sounds too good to be true, right? But the review are incredible. And yes… we read through way too many. Some will argue about the cost, and while we understand this is a personal thing, we also understand the importance of survival and our health. And to us, that price tag is a drop in the bucket if it means we've got a solid source for clean water. If you're like us and want to order one right away, head over to Amazon where you can obtain the information we included above and much much more.
