There are many reasons you must have at least one handgun in your survival arsenal, in addition to any other long guns you own.

What to buy, however, is a matter of opinion.

The key to deciding is simple; answer these three questions.

What will I use the firearm for? Defense or hunting? As an emergency barter item?

What amount of firepower do I need? The answer is dependent on your answer to question number one. You do not, for example, need a gun to bring down a bear if there are no bears in your neck of the woods.

What amount of firepower can I handle? We have all seen fully geared survivalists lugging around a firearm they have little chance of firing with accuracy or without causing themselves discomfort.
