What Ammo Should You Buy for a SHTF Situation?

gun shells ammo

Part of any survival kit or survival preparation has to include ammunition.

How much should you stockpile and what type? What brands can you rely on? Is it OK to cut corners occasionally or should you always stick with brand names and trusted vendors?

Make the right choices and you can guarantee you will have the firepower you need when you need it. Make a mistake (or several) and you can end up with a collection of ammo that is only effective if you throw it at something.

The answer to those questions, as with most survival-oriented issues depends on your personal experience, level of confidence in certain brands and in terms of storage, ability to store what you feel you need in a place that will ensure your ammunition remains dependable.

On the next page, we cover several major points regarding ammunition, what you should look for and what you should avoid if at all possible.

My philosophy has always been, get what everyone else has. Every time I go to the range, see cops on tv, or see the military’s new gear, I look at the Ammo they carry. In the event of nationwide panic or other shtf scenarios, AR15s and 9mm seems to be the most common ammo type around. Will you find police and army caches everywhere? Probably not, but all those tommy tactical mall ninjas with the molan labe shirts will probably be littering the streets with what you need on them or in their lifted trucks.
