A Fresnel lens is basically a plastic magnifying glass. It is a good fire starter and the skill, the way you use the lens in bright sunshine, is something every survivalist and prepper should learn.

Just remember, if there are clouds or the sun is down you are out of luck. In other words, it should not be your main source of fire starting.
