[VIDEO] When SHTF, Do You Know How Many Magazines You’ll Need?

If you have to use your firearms in a SHTF scenario, or a “grid-down” situation,  regular use will eventually degrade your ammunition magazines and if you are in a situation where you go through all the bullets in your magazine, you will need to have at least a few replacements.

The last thing you want to have happen is to have to stop and reload – especially if it is a life threatening situation!

Generally, most of us have a few extras for each firearm, but how many should you have in stock?

There is no “right answer” to this, but one thing is for sure – you probably do not have enough.

The video on the next page discusses this issues as well as provides some tips on how to find quality magazines on the cheap.

Brent Morgan there are guys overseas that tested the aluminium vs PMag theory and in a drop, throw and being run over with Humvee the pmag STILL worked, the aluminum mag was crushed and would no longer fit into magwell. But we are all allowed to buy what we want. Lancer makes polymer mags with steel feed lips as well.

If you have a few well trained sharpshooters, you wont need to worry about an onslaught; they wouldn’t make it close enough to your space. If it’s the end of the world…then it really doesn’t matter.

I prefer steel over aluminum, but that’s just me. And yes I agree everyone can have whatever they want. It’s just been my experience metal works better and lasts longer. It’s my 2 cents. You can buy whatever you like!

I lived through Katrina in south Mississippi. We got wiped off the face of the map for a long time. Most people think that only New Orleans got hit, they just flooded.

There are A LOT of guns where I live. Just about everyone’s cousin has a class 3 rifle/SBR.

I’ve learned that when in crisis, the best way to keep what you have is to make sure that it is known that you will defend it without hesitation.

HK 416’s with beta mags and select fire is an effective method. Loading ten rounds of blanks into a box mag is a great way to say “hey look, I have a machine gun. Go away. Quickly.”

I was issued Pmags in the Army on my last two deployments to Afghanistan.

    They work just fine.

Not sure I’d go with the 92, probably a glock in 9 or 40 as that is what most PDs use (at least in my state)

I’m not a fan of glock at all, but it’s the most widely purchased and duty issued pistol in the US.

Kurt Hash I chose the 92 because it is current US. army issue. I prefer Glock or Sig.
Or what ever the Canadian military uses.

I’m betting most won’t make it a mile with their bag before they start dumping stuff. People that don’t actually take their gear out and field test it have no idea what they’re in for.

A buddy of mine take a yearly camping/hiking trip taking only our BOBs specifically for this reason. It lest us use/test all of our gear and keep a good rotation on consumables/expirables.

In shtf a 22lr would be nice light ammo and most people have one head shot by one your just as dead. And you don’t need a ton of ammo just one bullet to get the next gun. I have several weapons but like a 22

The difference is, NATO rounds go in and throw. In and out, you may need more rounds to stop the average combatant. Now a 5.56 and 2.23’s goes in your shoulder and may come out your pinky toe. My 300 rounds will work as hard as your 500 NATO rounds. This is why American isn’t a real part of NATO.

Good video: like I tell my family you can NEVER have enough ammo or mags.
My back stock: is based on this 1 + 1 = 1. … because of that if I have 20 mags, I actually have 10 mags. If I have 1000 rnds .. i actually have 500 rnds. Keeping that in mind… i keep getting ammo and mags. I give them for gifts to family as well. 🙂 that concept helps drive me. Good luck to all, keep your powder dry.
