The following is a good video, particularly for those who are considering going off grid but have questions.  Note that this is a family, having different issues than if it is merely you on your own, but the point is there are things for all homesteaders to look for.

We are happy this couple is making it work. Obviously, it is tough on them and their kids, principally the idea of dragging water into the house every day, but the advantages seem to outweigh the hardship.

However, we suggest you start small and don’t throw yourself into the off-grid lifestyle until you are absolutely sure it is what you want. Remember, going without luxuries is not a temporary thing. You will be doing it for a lifetime if you’ve make the commitment. Make sure it is the right one!
