It's one thing to study bushcraft and purchase bushcraft tools and announce to others that you're “a bushcraft specialist.” It's a completely different thing to actually put those methods to the test and utilize nothing but your skills to brave an overnighter out in the woods.

Doing this from time to time can reveal gaps in your knowledge, give you the opportunity to learn from your mistakes before they can become life-threatening in a real survival situation, and come up with your own creative solutions to problems you may face.
