There's a variety of ways you can build a fire when SHTF. Most methods require you building a fire above ground, where you feed sticks into the flames, all the while trying to find that perfect spot, so you don't have to breathe in the smoke for a few minutes.
However, you may want to try a different method. The Dakota fire hole was originally thought up by the Native Americans. They used this fire technique to hide their fire and also the meals they were cooking from their enemies. Correctly done, a Dakota fire hole will emit no smoke and leaves very little trace that there was ever a fire, to begin with.
You may be curious as to how you can build a fire underground and how it will get oxygen. Another question is if it's underground, won't it suffocate the flames? These are all very normal questions to have.
On the video after the break, discover why the Dakota fire hole is one of the best-kept secrets of surviving and how you can use this ingenious fire building method to your advantage.
