Climbing trees goes back to our roots. Since the dawn of mankind and even before that, our ancestors were climbing trees for food, for high ground, and for fun. It's an ingrained skill that children are born with; they climb on things all the time, and the less they are coddled and told not to, the more skilled they become at this natural talent.
As we grow older, many of us use this skill less and less often, and should we ever need to do it, many of us will have a hard time.
Why would we need to climb trees? Well, if a tree has fruit, that would be an obvious resource to stock up on. If we are being chased by a predator, running up a tree could save our lives.
Not only that, but it's also an excellent way to stay in shape, which is extremely necessary if you are truly planning on surviving when SHTF.
