The more self-sustaining you are in regards to energy, the less you have to rely on oil, gas or grid power, which means savings as well as not having to rely on others to make sure you have what you need to make it through a survival incident.

Obviously, solar energy always ranks as the top alternative energy, but much of that is due to the fact it is relatively affordable, easy to set up and maintain.

After that, it gets a bit dicier and potentially a lot more expensive.
