Have you ever been hiking through the woods, minding your own business, then suddenly finding yourself face-to-face with a mountain lion? Yeah, us neither.

The truth is, mountain lions regularly do almost everything in their power to avoid people, so much so that you could be standing five feet away from one in the woods and never know that it's there. But occasionally, attacks do happen.

Typically, mountain lion attacks all have one thing in common: they occur with a solo hiker, biker, or hunter, with few exceptions. They also generally happen without warning; ambush is the cougar's greatest weapon.

Once in a while, though, an attack will come with quite a bit of sizing up. For a predator, attacking prey when they think there may be a risk to their own health is a big no-no.

Mountain Lions know this and will spend a great deal of time watching their prey to see if they can take it. That's when you get videos like the one on the next page.
