When my kids were young(preteen), they played in the woods a lot. They came running to me one day and wanted to show me what they found. It was a booby trap set up for using a shotgun in it. It was pointed at a well worn trail where the kids ran and played. When is one of these really necessary?

There is a lawsuit and jail time ahead for you, if someone gets shot. I remember a guy setting up a shotgun trap at his cabin, because of break ins. They nailed the cabin owner big time, when the trap worked very well on a break in.
