For those new to the world of knots, a monkey’s fist or paw is a specific type of knot.
Resembling the paw or fist of a monkey, this knot is often used as a weight at the end of a rope or heaving line. It is generally tied around a stone to use as a weight to aid in throwing the rope from one location to the next, but it can also be made without a separate weight simply by the method of tying the knot.
On a ship, it can be used to pull a cable to shore. It can also be utilized as an anchor while rock climbing, and even as a self-defense weapon!
You can make your own giant monkey fist – we will call it a gorilla – follow these simple steps! Check out the video on the next page!

Do you want one?
Sure
I make them all the time. They make good self defense weapons when a gun or blade isn’t allowed.

I’ll see what I can do!! Do you have a color preference?
Some knots are too time consuming and can get complicated. Gimme a half hitch, full hitch knot, a hitchhiker stopped knot, and a Palomar knot and I can survive easily.
Lol.
Jacob Walker lets do it
Hardly a necessary survival skill. I would rather use my para cord for other more Important things like snares, booby traps, fishing line, emergency boot laces and shelter lashing.
Hardly a necessary survival skill but a good skill to have.
Tie 6′ Inch “Loop” to a 6′ Inch Crescent Wrench,
It Will Do The Same Thing and is More Useful…
Monkey Fist over a bearing is not a reliable weapon. it is for one time use, they self destruct.
They make them out of yellow nylon rope and without weights for ultra deep water ROV work. Standard floats such as styrofoam won’t work cause the pressure down there squeezes all the air out. So the nylon money fist works great.

Better to just watch it on YouTube
It’s a stupid thang.

I use copper wire
Um, ok… I’m guessing it was a slow day and this video was the best they could come up with… Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice knot and very decorative, but I’m having a tough time envisioning the situation where this will save a life…
Yes…. survival…..

I’d want something sturdier than a billiard ball, but nice!
But did you also know that rope was originally invented to tie$#%&!@*together?
Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
YO, JOE!
Use to make these in middle school by hand.
