While it's always fun to sit around a fire and reminisce about the events of the day or maybe big events of old, sometimes all you want is a small cooking fire that you can use to boil water and heat up your MRE.

However, if you don't have a cooking stove, then you may be out of luck for a simple little no-frills fire. One way to overcome this is to pack foods which don't have to be cooked at all. But that's often unappetizing, and it can be incredibly boring.
