Being able to make use of every single thing at your disposal is going to be what sets the survivors apart from those who don't make it in a SHTF situation.

Essentially, nothing is garbage. Things we throw away today without a second thought are going to be indispensable when the bubble bursts and there is no way to get new supplies.

A trip to the scrap yard is going to be like a trip to the hardware store today. While food and clean water are going to be the most fought-over supplies, it's safe to say that things like spare batteries, paper clips, balloons and plastic bottles are going to be just as important to those who know how to use them.
