Cougars can be terrifying. Whether you know them by the name of puma, panther, or mountain lion – the effect is usually the same.
Fascinating to observe at a distance, scary to experience and run into.
Although cougars rarely attack humans (they generally stick to deer and smaller animals as their prey), a run-in can be deadly. Cougars usually avoid humans as much as possible, but that doesn’t mean attacks don’t happen.
In general, you should exercise precaution. Do not approach a cougar, and if one approaches you, DO NOT RUN.
Also, you should maintain eye contact and try to stand as tall as you can. And if they charge at you, fight back!
