Survival in almost any setting requires a certain set of skills and the tools you will need to accomplish tasks.
While having access to every type of tool is preferable, the reality is that you will only use a few number of tools for most survival scenarios.
It depends on your environment what those tools are, but the one constant is that you need to have a sturdy, sharp and reliable survival knife.
After that, your environment dictates what you will use most and most effectively.
What you need in Maine, for example, will be somewhat different than what you need in Louisiana and what's needed there will differ from what you need in a desert environment.
To see one guys opinion on five tools, you must have when faced with a survival or bush situation, check out the video on the next page.

Lol.
Yeah, I always carve wooden bowls when I’m in the bush,I sell them on Pinterest with the bushcraft aprons I make. I also process lumber and make 2×4’s and build tree houses. That’s why I take my Trailfinder crook and awl, so I can sit around and drill holes.
Dave is the man.

another great video with useful info,
I couldn’t get it to load. What was his take on the five needed tools?
Lmao .. Have these fucking people couldn’t even survive out of a camper .. “5tool rule” lmao ok
Here’s an idea.. Make this a real list and not some spammy kinda thing .. Bad post!
I literally detest videos. I live so far out, I barely get a cell signal.
How about a simple list?
I believe this is daves rules lol.
Half*
Actually that is Dave Canturberry who was on Dueling Survivorists for awhile. He says things like that to instill mnemonics to his lessons. Has tons of videos on YouTube.
I have heard he is a little more humble now after the show and things blew up on him over it. So he isn’t as gruff as he was. But I reserve judgement for those that were directly affected. Never met him myself.
I need to quit talking into my phone Lol
All them shows are designed to make you think survival is harder than it actually is you really don’t need any of that stuff .. They want to keep you in the house in front of the TV

love Canterbury, ready for new season of pathfinder outdoor journal!
dont forget the flat round steel/wood rasp
mora cant do everything
I agree . But you don’t need five tools to carry around
Are use the Tops “Tom Brown tracker” a lot but I put my own grind on the front of the knife before I liked it
Just a quick question does anyone have someone you could refer me to to make a knife with some of my antlers as the handle?
The most important tool is knowledge.
Contact Tim O. Davison here on Facebook. He can probably help you.
You only need one tool its called a brain
What are the notches on his ax handle for? Measurements ? They seem to be at more than 1 inch increments
Dave Canterbury is a hero of mine!
Love this guy. Dirty rotten survival
Wow Patrick Sinc Sincevich beautiful work I’ll send you a private message and friend request maybe we can hash out some details and I love you have a knife made by you.
I’m also originally from Frederick Maryland I live in Hagerstown Maryland right now
Knowledge is lightweight and easy to carry. I personally prefer the 5 C ‘ s. Look it up.

Adam Straight that’s a beautiful piece.

Awesome video a must see
Grab a book, Read up on it, practice. Several ways, styles.
I like the work Morgan Koens does. But Ive never seen him use bone or antler. But it’s worth checking into..
Very well thought out…I am sure some would find areas of disagreement …but he backs up his rule with logic!

Daves YouTube channel is wildernessoutfitters. This video is there too. But IIRC it discussed different locations as well.
They are exactly that. Dave covers that in another video on his channel
Chris Dupree
Someone smarter would use theirs to prepare themselves for what they are getting into.
