[VIDEO] Self Defense 101: How To Disarm A Gunman

One never knows when they could come under assault – armed robberies in this day and age are far too common.

In a survival situation, particularly if you are prepared and someone else is not, desperate times make people do desperate things, which is why you must know how to handle yourself in a self-defense situation.

The key here is to not be stupid – if someone wants money or credit cards, give it to them. But if they are life threatening, you have to know how to defend yourself – survival situation or not.

What self-defense tips can you add to this?

With all due respect- NEVER strike an opponent after grabbig the gun- it knocks them back and draws the gun back in alignment with you. Yes, i am making a video to illustrate this. Ill share it when done.

Strange, don’t train with realistic trigger discipline…or rather the lack thereof?

When I went through training for this we worked with FX and qualified with live rounds. When disarming both hands should be on the firearm and if you strike you’re likely taking a chance of missing or just annoying the assailant, or as Keith Bost pointed out allowing the perpetrator to regain their structure. With both hands on the firearm you pull it away from the shooter so that if they have their finger on the trigger you’ll force a negligent discharge rendering the weapon safe because your grip does not allow for slide articulation. Once their weapon is essentially placed in condition 3 you can proceed with a complete disarm while not being overly concerned with vector.

You also do not want to be standing in front of even a pistol when doing this because hot GSR will likely blind you.

In the community it’s called ‘getting a pickle’ because the initial movement is similar to opening a pickle jar.
