Being able to create a fire in a survival situation is critical to giving yourself a major advantage to making it through unscathed. With fire, you can cook, warm yourself, provide light and even use it as self-defense.

Without it, your situation may not become dire, but it will become far more uncomfortable. Spending a night in the wilderness with no fire, for example is no fun. If the weather is inclement or cold, it is even less fun.

There are many ways of starting a fire and you should have several methods stored in your backpack or survival kit at all times.

One very effective way is to use a mirror to pinpoint the Sun's light to a certain point and use the reflected heat to incinerate everything from paper to leaves to match heads.
