The issue of preparing for a survival situation or SHTF moment can be confusing.

What is the right level of preparedness? Are those folks on television with full-blown survival shelters and years worth of food and supplies stored away over-reacting? Are they a little off? Or are they absolutely onto something?

One indicator is that our US federal government has appealed to the public to have enough stored supplies on hand to last several days in an emergency.

With their track record, if the US federal government is warning us to be prepared, we probably should fall somewhere between what they recommend and those folks on television – just to err on the side of caution.
