In an age of iPhones and GPS, even GPS on iPhones, where with a push of a button a hiker, camper, fisherman or even just someone lost in the woods, can find their way, being able to read a map and compass is a lost art. Some iPhones even have compasses on them (although they are routinely off by degrees for some reason).

But what if, in our newfound technology at the loss of old-fashioned navigational tools, lose that technology?

How would we get around, especially in the woods?

Being able to read a map and compass is a skill that you should practice and master, even if you do not ever have to use it.

Consider it a “preventative measure” just in case you find yourself without your technology or hopelessly lost in the wilderness with no way of connecting to the outside world.
