[VIDEO] Make This Easy Foundry For Under $20

A foundry is a great way to melt scrap metal, use a blacksmithing forge and even as a “in a pinch” grill.

With this amazing mini foundry, make from sand, plaster of Paris, a metal bucket and a plastic bucket to mold the core, you can make a mini foundry for under $20.

Realistically, though, how could this help you?

Melting scrap metal to make compact medallions is one way. Another is using the forge idea to heat up metal enough to mold or bend it – which could be vital in a survival situation.

Best of all, because this project is very inexpensive, if your foundry cracks, making a new one won't break the bank.

You do have to be careful when using this. Red hot coals are nothing to mess around with.

The video on the next page shows you how to make this incredible mini foundry.

I made one and it works but it broke (and if you don’t have any of the supplies and have to buy it all its about $50 or $60 to make it)

I made this exactly and it barely cost me 40 to make. A bit pricey but if you look around, you can salvage a lot of that stuff. The only thing you really have to buy is the plaster of Paris and the sand. You can make just about anything else work. I ended up using a 1/2″ drill bit and drilled everything out that needed to be drilled

You could at least give Grant Thompson a shout out somewhere in the article, it’s his video

Both you and Goat have sent me this. You guys got an aluminium fetish you need scratched?

Isn’t that just a matter of the fuel? We could add a bellows system with the addition of a piece of pipe to stoke the fire

My buddy and I did this. Be sure you guys have some way too measure the temp, cause ours got hot enough to burn through the steel fire extinguisher we used as our crucible
Also, in case of failure, set your furnace on something that can withstand, or protect against molten metal; at our meltdown, the metal very quickly ate through the insulation, then through the bucket, damaging the asphalt beneath it.
