(VIDEO) Learn How to Tie a Square Lashing Without Breaking a Sweat

Knots and lashings are difficult for a lot of people. Even in the Boy Scouts, lashings are considered by some to be so difficult to learn that a lot of scouts only memorize one basic knot and all rely on that one lashing to get everything done.

This isn't an effective method to rely on; a lot of structures eventually crash to the ground. The reason there are so many different lashings is because each one is intended for a specific purpose.

You wouldn't hunt a squirrel with a 12 gauge, and you wouldn't hunt a bear with a BB gun, so it should stand to reason that with lashing, you should only employ the methods which are best geared toward whatever building intention you have.

For example, a square lashing is intended for combining two lengths of wood at a 90-degree angle to each other, and you would use this for a fence, parts of a building and the frame of a raft.
