One thing that struck us was when Lilly mentioned being able to protect yourself from bears. Every year you hear about weekend warriors who go into the woods, ill protected, than have fatal or nearly fatal encounters with bears.

While a spear may not be the ultimate answer it certainly could fu=ill the space between you and that bear and you will get a few good pokes in should the bear attack! The more you learn, the more improved you become with a spear, the better!
