Melting metal, particularly in a dire survival situation is a skill that will be very handy.

At the very least, it enables the creation of a chunk of metal that is able to be easily bartered. At most, it allows for the creation of needed tools and metal parts without having to expend a lot of currency or energy.

This shouldn't have to be said, but …

This type of forge is very dangerous, especially if you are not careful. Virtually every step of its construction and use has the ability to seriously maim a person. Use your head if you attempt this.

That said, if you are preparing for a long-term survival situation, this type of forge would come in very handy.
