Anyone with a backpack or bug-out bag needs to have all the right tools inside.
Think of yourself as a hiker, finding yourself lost in the midst of a large forest. If you have a mirror to signal that’s great but if the trees are too thick that may not be effective. Also, you can only signal if you see and hear a rescue vehicle. What you need is something that will draw planes and helicopters to you.
Smoke will do it!

It depends. If I was a hiker lost somewhere In the woods and I wanted to attract attention to my location this would be nice.
Make a good diversion
God, are you running out of stuff to publish? Crayon smoke bombs? I’m sure that’s the first thing I’m going to pack is crayon smoke bombs.
And who typically carries crayons to begin with?
Why not take a step further and just buy some flares? lol You’d probably spend the same amount of money or more on all the ingredients and flare casings etc.. that you would if you just went to Walmart and bought a set.
