The critter in the video on the next page is not your traditional crayfish that most of us are familiar with – it is larger, more colorful and resides at least in partially salt water, but the method of catching them is one with broad application.
Crayfish are usually found in cold, clean water of lakes, rivers, streams and ponds. While it is not advisable to eat them raw, they make a delicious meal when boiled.
They can be caught very easily using a trap or net and with a little bit of effort, by cornering them and catching them by hand.
Nutritionally, crayfish are packed with vitamins and minerals as well as a good source of protein although, for an entire meal, you have to catch a lot (7 lbs of crayfish tails yield about a pound of meat.)
