Just about everyone concerned with survival skills has seen in some iteration the Gum-Wrapper Fire-Starter technique in one iteration or another.
Like most survival hacks, however, it is not quite as simple as it seems.
You cannot take any gum-wrapper, apply it to a battery and Voila!, a life-saving fire appears!
Many already know that.
Some had trouble starting the fire – it was not an instant inferno. There are a couple of possible reasons for this.
Others burnt their fingers holding the battery – who knew the flowing electrical current through your fingertips would get hot?
Still, others found that they were holding the actual fire-starter wrong, which prevented the wrapper from heating up to the right temperature to ignite.
