Warning: This DIY survival article is includes working with electrical components. Please remember to use caution and make sure the outlet you are working on has been powered off before you start your work.

If you are lucky enough to have power at your survival shelter or camp, you know that electrical components such as plug outlets and switches can go bad.

When that happens, if you are in a remote place, an electrician may not be available, which means replacing the component falls on you.

Once your power is off, all you have to do is follow the directions on the back of the component regarding where to place your wires and you are good to go.

In the video on the next page, we cover how to replace a failed three-way switch, but the same advice works for most outlets as well.
