(VIDEO) How to Make a Primitive Feather Spear Trap

Hunting actively for game is an excellent way to burn calories and ensure that whatever nutrients you receive from the game are wasted. A way around this is to construct traps so that all you have to do is do a circuit every now and then to check your traps. You'll use basket traps for fish and snares for rabbits, but when it comes to deer and boar, you need an instant-kill feather spear trap. Learn how to make it below.

Ideally, you'd probably want this trap to be on a slightly larger scale so that you have a guaranteed deep penetration, but this is an excellent display of the forces at work. If you are able to watch your game for awhile before setting the trap, you could also make a note of the foods they eat and bait the path of the trap.

As with all traps, be sure to set a bunch of them in different locations. As the old adage says, “If you want to catch a fox, set five traps.” You probably won't be hunting a fox, but you get the idea.

This is an excellent tip to add to your bushcraft knowledge for when SHTF. Be careful of where you place it, though; you don't want a pet or child to set it off.
