Cooking food is the one thing that sets us apart from the animals. However, there are several animals that use tools, show empathy, and many that show complex thinking and planning abilities.
Cooking food, however, is what makes us human. The simple action of eating a warm cooked meal makes us feel at ease and just that tiny bit more human, regardless of the conditions in which we find ourselves.
When SHTF and you find yourself living off the grid, particularly if there is no longer a grid to speak of, your ability to cook a meal may be in question if you run out of fuel for your camp stove, which will happen eventually. When that happens, you will have to resort to more traditional methods.
