A true survival situation demands that you improvise – use everything available to you as you find it – usually with modification.
Depending on your situation, this includes weapons.
One fairly easy way to get a weapon for smaller game and self-protection is to make a bow out of PVC pipe.
PVC pipe is found in almost every structure these days, which means if it is a true survival situation, you can scavenge what you need to fashion this type of bow.
Apart from that, you will need paracord (which most of us have in abundance it is so useful) and a plastic guide to help hold your arrows or darts in place.
The video on the next page covers everything you need to make a PVC bow (although you will still need to make or provide the arrows).

I made a nice bow out of PVC and it works great!
I chose to stimulate the local economy and buy a takedown recurve LOL. not cheap but hey, if we don’t break out a little then we won’t have anything good local. Besides, PVC and cold weather don’t get along
My friend made probably 10 or 20 of these in different sizes. He made a couple that you can’t tell aren’t wood until you hold it in your hands. These are fun and cheap to use.
Ian Munro……..after the bow drill? haha
I don’t think I’d be shooting at a rubber tire. That arrow might bounce off, come back and hit you in the face. Then you’d be PVC face!
Another type of bow (not very well known) that could be useful in a survival situation is the pellet bow.
I’ll use my Mathews lol

It works and can hold out long enough for you to get something better. Hey in a pinch you will say oh thank god I have this.

Ive made a few pvc bows now and they work a treat, including my last which pulled 58lb at 28″…
For the cost and durability i wont shoot anything else anymore…..
Finishing up on my PVC bow right now. Kinda stuck until I can get some paracord. And having trouble finding any of it. Our Walmart doesn’t carry it any longer. And no hardware stores close by
