[VIDEO] Dead Reckoning is a Skill You Must Develop for Survival Navigation

Dead Reckoning

Dead reckoning is using instruments or your knowledge of landmarks to identify where you are and what direction you need to go to get to safety.

For centuries, it was the only way to navigate in land or water and to know how to do so is vital to making sure you can get yourself out of a survival situation today.

Most people who venture out onto the sea or into the bush use an element of instinctual dead reckoning to navigate, born of years of traversing all sorts of terrain or water.

Knowing how to do so is critical if you do the same, especially in the event your traditional methods of determining your location and the course you want to follow fails you.

How do you use dead reckoning to navigate? It could be very useful in a survival situation!

If you’re using a map and compass it’s not dead reckoning. Its land navigation. Dead reckoning is knowing the general direction you need to go and going. If you have a map and or compass why not use it. Good luck heavy on the dead at least.
