Seeing some survivalist kits might be disconcerting at first. Tools like pocketknives and other blades, cooking ware, thermal sleeping bags, hiking gear, tents, and various bags – it adds up rather quickly. And many people believe that to obtain useful tools for your trek into the wilderness you have to buy the flashiest brands with the highest price tags.

This is not necessarily true. Sure, some companies make higher quality products, and you want to ensure that your tools are in excellent working condition. But don’t assume that building your survival kit requires you to cough up extreme cash.

Research different brands and check out user reviews to determine what items are worth saving for, and which items you can get at low cost.
