If you're dealing with a SHTF situation and all of a sudden the wind picks up or you have a storm on your hands, having a shelter you can rely on is what is going to save you. The truth is you will die a lot more quickly from exposure than you will from illness or starvation.
Keeping this factor in mind, there are a variety of ideas that preppers have in regards to what kind of shelter to have when SHTF. Some preppers may turn to their tents as a quick and easy bug out shelter if they don't have a cabin out in the woods, for example.
However, there's one problem with having a tent as your shelter. Tents tend to be less durable than a shelter built to withstand the elements and over time, a tent can fail you.

Yeah but how do you keep it from roasting you in the summer if you live somewhere like Florida or Louisiana? Even if you threw shade over it that would only help so much
