Having good weapons on your person at all times in a SHTF scenario will almost certainly become a necessity because most people aren't prepared for a SHTF scenario.

Hungry people become very aggressive very quickly, and you may find yourself a huge target if you've made it known to people that you've been preparing for this exact situation (don't do that; go low profile). For that reason, it's also important to stock up on weapons that you can always have at arms reach.

Sometimes, though, it may be better to make your weapons from scratch. These weapons are unregistered and therefore when martial law is instilled (and it will be) and the government comes knocking for your guns in a SHTF scenario, you'll still be well armed because they will have no idea of the array of homemade weapons you've got waiting in the wings.
