It is counter-intuitive, but if you need a side bug-out vehicle, the Honda CRV might just meet your budget and survival needs.

This video shows that it is fairly rugged, reliable and can go some places that a larger, more powerful off road vehicle could not.

Because used CRV's are inexpensive, grabbing one is an option for most people.

Sure, it would be nice to have the top of the line in terms of off-road capability, but if that is not in your budget or if you just cannot justify spending a bunch on something you'd only use in an emergency, the CRV is a very viable option.
