Rodents will pose a major health threat as well as other types of nuisances in a major, long-term survival situation and if you do not figure out a way to trap and remove them, you will suffer the consequences!
In a longer-term survival situation, particularly if a traditional infrastructure is decimated (say in an earthquake, flood or major structural damage due to a storm,) rodents will flourish, even as you become more vulnerable to hunger, thirst, and sickness.
Unfortunately, most rodents are disease carriers, whether it be bacteria, viruses or parasites. They also will be as hungry and desperate as you!
If you do not keep the rodent population under control, you risk getting sick or having your food and water supply tainted.

I’d like to suggest the possibility of a Ferrel cat population increase as a parallel to an increased rodent population.
I mean its a good trap and a good idea but rats just like roaches are only as nasty as their environment. Kinda sounds like a scare tactic.
In a total collapse we may be eating the rats too.
This actually is very effective i remember my days in public housing iI left a bucket in my room by mistake and would discover 3 mice in the morning looking up at me tired from a night of trying to jump out but they could not

Nope, not with the diseases and plagues they carry. I will not eat them.
Excellent idea. I did the same trap for chipmunk using a metal trip plate but it would fall in the water, requiring reloading. This guy has a much better idea.
I catch chipmunks squirrels and mice on my property with the trap !
Not a problem but food!! Hate say it..
