When we are taught storm safety as children, we are often left with an incomplete understanding and half-truths of the devastation that lightning can cause.

We know it’s frightening at times, like when it strikes a tree nearby, or we hear about the fire somewhere in the not-too-off-far distance.

We might even find a lightning storm thrilling from the safety of our homes.

We are told that lightning never strikes the same place. That our rubber tires will protect us from lighting when we are in the car. That we will be safe if we stay indoors. That metal attracts lightning. And yet, none of these are true.

Those of us who have had close run-ins with lighting were caught completely unaware, and these people also weren’t exactly playing outside in any lighting storms… Here are some of their fascinating stories on a video after the break!
