(Video) 4 Serious Threats We Should NEVER Try to Outrun in the Wild or Else

running bear

Occasionally, as humans, we can be a bit full of ourselves. Being such evolved creatures and such, we might overestimate our own abilities, particularly in situations of survival, when the fight or flight instinct kicks in.

When we are caught in a moment of panic, it can be difficult to remember the best practices for survival in that particular situation. The thoughts running through your head might be limited to, “What should I do? What should I do?!”

Sometimes we might fight and lose, but we also might take flight and still lose. Maybe there is a third option that will provide us with a better ending.

In these four situations, you shouldn’t even think about the option of flight. Because you can’t run that fast.

After the break, find out which situations you should NEVER run away from, and then watch the video and get a more in-depth explanation as to why.

No$#%&!@*Justin, Running will just make you die tired, stand your ground and punch the fucker in the nose. Better to die tired….. Kinda hard to punch a 10 ft grizzly in the nose anyway….

Actually if a bear is chasing you, you want to run downhill in a diagonal direction. They evolved to run uphill but not down. And kiss your$#%&!@*good bye cause you should have had a gun in Bear country.

  5. Chris Proctor said:

That’s only for black bears. Their hind legs are longer than their front, so they’re unstable going downhill. Even then, you’re not going to outrun them.

You don’t have to outrun the bear. Just be sure you take someone with you that you can outrun.

Only a fool would go in bear country without a firearm that can stop a bear and for sure a brown or grizzly ,besides in bear country they are wolfs around some where ,and you sure don’t wand a pack of wolfs after you ,bears are bad$#%&!@*but a pack of wolfs will get you you can’t watch your back with wolfs ,with a single bear you could have a chance with a fire arm but 30 or more big hungry timber wolfs ,will follow you for miles watching waiting on the right time.

you guys crack me up on being foolish to not have gun in Bear country. I love guns, but Bears don’t worry me. I’m a Bear magnet, and Moose have been more serious threat to me in the woods. I’ve touched both in the wild. Not suggesting that! They have moods and times they need to be left alone just like People.

Chris Proctor I do agree on wild packs of dogs. Had Coyotes all around me in very thick brush, I admit; that made me nervous!

What about an avalanche? Granted, the plan I’ve always heard is to run at an angle to get to the outside because it is moving to swiftly down the mountain.

I have come accross black beer mountain biking and hiking and was fortunate that moved the other way. My former side was chased by a die but she had cubs. She made the right decission to run and I suspect the Dow chasing because she had rounded a bend and the sow was no longer able to see the cubs. Know when to run and when to stand

  22. Wayne Frazier said:

I call BS on that advice, because I have personally seen a black bear run down hill at 30+mph in full control. I have also had the Honor of walking side by side a Timber Wolf with about 20yrds between us for over a half a mile up a hollow because I wasn’t fool enough to run. It was truly an Honor to walk with such a magnificent animal. And yes I did talk to him, it took over an hour to go that far so we had a good conversation.

I have a friend who worked summers in katmai national park, and he said he watched a scared bear, run down a steep mountain at high speed, so he now says that is a myth that you should not count on

Forest Ranger told me that when I was in scouts, not surprised it’s been proven false as that was a long time ago
