The aftermath of a survival scene and environment is nothing if not chaotic.
As Emergency response crews descend, they deal with dangerous conditions, health and safety hazards, a dazed, desperate or hostile populace (sometimes all three.)
To combat this, they have symbols they use as they clear an area to ensure those following in their footsteps can get an accurate “lay of the land” without further exposure to risk.
Knowing the symbols not only could make your traversing a survival situation easier, it could help you avoid trouble and even injury or death.
Not knowing either means you essentially are in the same, new territory as those making the initial sweep – you could encounter the same obstacles and dangers they did with the same amount of ignorance.
