If the US federal government says something is a threat — or if they happen to admit that something's a threat — then it's likely much more of a pending alarming situation than the government cares to admit.
Keeping that in mind, the federal government — which include multiple agencies and the military — have relinquished that one huge threat to our very lives is an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP).
Whether it takes place by intent (a nuclear detonation or terrorism) or by chance (EMP destruction caused by a meteorite or comet), an EMP event would no doubt be life altering.
If an event like this were to take place, one major challenge would be transportation. The majority of today's vehicles are reliant on computers and electrical components which translates to if an EMP took place, a vehicle would become hunks of metal, rubber, and plastic.

You should get more specific with alternative modes of transportation as well. Tractors (diesel), quads and side by sides…if it truly is a bug out situation, get out fast. If your hauling 2.4 kids, a spouse, 25 gallons of fuel and enough food for a month, you aren’t bugging out…Your a target.

A good option is an early model diesel tractor with a good closed trailer, you will have to live in it and fight from it. Things wil be inevitable make the best of the time you have left,

I’ve read articles that the vehicle itself would, or could may be a better word, act as a faraday cage. It would be great if that could be tested and confirmed so money could be spent elsewhere.

It’ll start if you have an old truck and it doesn’t have a computer. So of you have spark plugs and a distributor cap, then no.problems.
In the 1960’s scientists tried to get Congress to fix our grid because they new a solar flare in the 1880’s blew out the telegraph grid world. Congress being the idiots they’ve always been refused thinking it was science fiction. Now American is the least prepared industrialized country. A major solar flare is inevitable, it’s just a matter of time, we will all be in the stone age and it will take months to get anything working. Transportation will shut down around the world all at once. In couple days the stores will be empty and people will panic, it will be a self imposed Armageddon.
