It's rare that the US federal government actually tells their people that there are threats, but when they do it's a good idea to pay attention.
The US government which consists of multiple agencies and the military has admitted one thing to be aware of is an impending Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP). And since the government admitted to this potentially taking place in the future, you know it's serious.
The truth is whether an EMP happens because of terrorism or a nuclear detonation resulting from a meteorite, for example, there's no doubt an EMP would significantly change life as we know it.
Plus, another challenge that preppers should be aware of is transportation. Since most of the vehicles rely on electrical components and computers, if an EMP were to strike a modern car would become a hunk of metal, plastic, and rubber.
However, if you plan ahead you can save your car from self-destructing, it just takes some well thought out preparation.
To know what type of vehicle you should have in the event of an EMP and how to protect it, visit the next page.

This article is inaccurate at best. Most late model vehicles have a wiring and frame structure that acts as a built in faraday cage. In reality no more than 10% of cars in the US will be affected by an EMP, and of those 10% only some will be catastrophic failure.

First of all get a better vehicle than dodge’s they are junk
I’ve seen several studies stating that vehicles themselves are faraday cages. Guess we’ll find out if that’s true the hard way.
Pshh…all the newer vehicles are junk
Josh Dean on the contrary my new KIA SPORTAGE is great and I love the gas mileage is 28 mpg highway that is great for a 4 wheel drive Crossover, guy I work with has a 2008 with over 150,000 miles and has never had a problem
cool
Put your article on ONE PAGE! It takes FOREVER to get through one of your stories. I luv the info, but hate your set up! 🙁
Best bud out vehicle is the 49 cc scooter! I got four of them less than 500 bucks in each one I store them in a faraday cage in my garage, I’m working on fitting them better suspension in back to support saddle bags. And looking into building small motorcycle trslets for them as well. I can get to my big out bunker in the Ozarks via the county roads and state highways in less than six hours, they all four easily fit into my 1 ton cargo van. They get close to 100 miles per gallon and the Honda Ruckus ( what I have) or Kawasaki model are simple machines, and can be bought cheap with blown motors even replaced with cord pull start engines no battery if you don’t need lights or turn signals
EMP will fry coils, points, starters, alternator’s, magnetos that’s on dirt bikes and atv’s
I’ve had 6 Chevy’s 2 GMC 3 fords I bought a 2014 Ram 2 years ago best truck I’ve ever owned.
A Dodge is lucky to run under normal circumstances!

if an emp happens look at a map and think about where you want to go. remember no tv show, movie, or book put into it the uncontrolled nuclear meltdowns at every nuclear powerplant in america. the meltdown in russia and japan would be nothing. after an emp
we wouldnt even be able to contain the meltdowns.

Wrap the vehicle in aluminum foil
86, 225, runs like a Singer Sewing machine. Extra Distrib, points, cap all. And always a hot battery on hand.
Buy a horse
If your serious get a spare set of electronics and coils, stuff them in a microwave and duct tape it shut. Cut the cord off it so no one does something stupid and store it in a cool dry spot in your basement. A microwave is insulated to keep radiation in…guess what…it keeps it out also.
Great job!!
Good idea!!
There is no such thing as a dead microwave. They are designed to keep microwave radiation in and conversely keep it out
:
The roads are going to be impassable because of millions of stalled vehicles. Unless you have a badass 4×4 a dodge truck like the one in the photo will be worthless.

Snatch Ropes n chain saws..

And your talking about city I suppose,?….I won’t be there.
IThe article begins with the possibility of an EMP.
I’m not taking one side or another here, but some claims have been made that the 9/11 event was an “inside job” and the POTUS administration was warned in advance. What is the possibility 9/11 was a created act for some reason unknown at this time.
Let’s suppose the current POTUS was informed of the possibility of an EMP and he decided to go public. What are the chances the next disaster will be a “created” event. What is the reasoning behind it – an opportunity to take advantage of a crisis, a deflection, or the need to destroy evidence of some massive fraud against We, the People?
There is one thing certain, too many agencies now have specific agendas. Too many non-governmental individuals and organizations have strings attached to elected officials. Money breeds greed and greed makes people bleed. I have no way to back up any suspicion, but I do know this – there are too many unanswered questions, too much foreign and domestic influence, on US leadersand policy makers.
Even the most prepared are not ready to face the evil and traitorious legion that lurks beyond the veil of secrecracy. If an EMP occurs and we dive into bunkers what will we find when we climb out. If the nation is effected as a whole more than likely we will be faced with a tyranical totalitarian regime that is attempting to maintain some semblance of control.
My point here – is there an interest by an unknown entity that stands to gain much if Amerca is brought to her knees by way of a created disaster?
Best hand guns are 9mm and 380, when you can’t reload the 9 mm you can cut them down into thick area reload into 380
Mitch, you are a pathetically stupid, imbecilic, attention craving$#%&!@*head.
Mopars with points are one of the most reliable autos in an EMP scenario.

Maybe as your leaving the city or trying to drive down interstates (if it happens during a congested time), but in a bug out situation, I have serious doubts anyone wants to be the only car running in a city.
Ok, going through the article, I found some great ideas, some interesting ones, and some that, well, just made me laugh.
So tips to go with this.
1. For those who refuse to give up your nice newer cars with computer components. You have a couple options. Either build a Faraday Box to house spare computer and ignition components, or make your garage a large Faraday Box. (You won’t have any radio or cell signal in it (that actually tells you your more protected from this, and it can help protect other vital needed equipment like radios, Ham equipmant, DVD players, or any sensitive electrical systems including generators)
2. Keep a “in tank fuel pump”, spools of wire and fuel line. This will help for you to stop at abandoned gas stations to draw fuel out of the underground tanks, but be wary of getting caught “looting”. Some small station owners will even let you fill 5 gallon tanks for a slightly inflated price, because after all, you just showed them how to make some cash while the computers and pumps are down so they can charge a bit higher for their gas till the systems return.
Many preppers have become accustomed to having things ready to “grab before they go” mentality, meaning they will “pack it up AFTER the SHTF, BAD IDEA
People will very quickly realize what is happening and start their stupid looting and stealing frenzy off the get go because there has already been so much talk about it. Instead, have your “bugout” vehicle packed with basics intended to go already and leave the grabbing to go to a minimum. Be sure to start and run your bugout vehicle regularly to ensure operation and librication. (Nothing says “screwed” more that to find your motor locked up when it is needed to run.)
Use the “buddy system” tihS happens, the starter or something stupid can go bad at the drop of a hat. (Ever jump in your car to find the ignition switch went bad on your last drive?) If you have a “group” meeting in predetermined location, have one “drive by” to look for a predetermined marking, such as welcome mat rolled and stuffed in mailbox, or something like that. Make it easy to spot from road and quick to set up, so they don’t look for you, but know you made it out safe so your crew can ALL be safe.
Hope a few of these tips help. If you don’t know what a Faraday Box is or how to make one. Look it up. Believe it or not the premise works great and can be made into any size depending on needs and available funds.
Phil Parlock your mama really liked the head of my Johnson, little man trying to get attention you should try real women instead of laytex
Phil Parlock the only EMP you know is the battery powered$#%&!@*up your a*s

BBC channel TOP GEAR Mapped the Rubicon trail for Google they did not even use a dodge, the Toyota 4Runner rolled, the full size 80’s Bronco made it (Barely) with major damage to the undercarriage the GEO TRACKER made it thru in the best shape
Matt McCollum right on
I will hope to be stay away from the cities. Live pretty deep in the woods in N.Florida, a friend on the other side of the county has a series of underground bunker and I have availability of a NC cottage high up in the Mountains. But might just be best here in the woods, a big Lake, abundant wildlife, wood for fuel. I forage for edibles especially mushrooms.
I should be fine.
I keep 2 that can be harnessed and worked or ridden.
If the vehicle in question is actually a camel, mule, or horse…
If an EMP that powerful hits ground level whether or not your vehicle starts will be the least of your worries. Reference the EMP data collected during operation Hardtack (1958) and subsequent test detonations since then.
A blue water capable sailboat would be my option.
