While it's wise to be careful around strangers, especially when bugging out or dealing with a SHTF scenario, it's normal to still have a key group of friends and family members whom you trust in.
For now it's natural to count on your smartphone and Internet for communication but later on, it'll be a different story.
Sorry to sound paranoid, but when you're standing on the corner of Panicked Mob Violence it's vital to have some way to be silent when it comes to communication.
Yes it will be important to talk to people to figure out what is going on and communicating with those close to you will also be important, but there's going to be the dilemma of communicating around people who mean you harm.
In other words, learning how to communicate discreetly will likely be your rescue line and you must learn how to communicate in other ways effectively.
