Before the days of refrigeration and tons of preservatives were thrown into mostly all of our food, people knew what foods they needed to stock in their in kitchen. This was in case they were unable to make it to the store for a long time or needed to keep their patries stocked for winter.
The foods that people relied on were foods that could be stored indefinitely and this type of food usually made up the bulk of their diets as well. Even when there was a lot of food, people always saved this kind of food because it was inexpensive and easy to find.
Luckily, these survival foods still cheap and plentiful today and can make up a bulk of your survival storage. Sure, you can freeze nearly anything for a while, but what will happen when your power goes out, or your freezer fails you?
It's important to remember that you should always have a backup plan in place for SHTF situations. The foods on the next page should be your first choice. After all, they'll likely outlive you!
