A survival knife is a blade you will be betting your life on, so it goes without saying that you'll want a good knife that you can depend on.

That said, the knife you should have largely depends on the tasks you face on a regular basis or you see yourself facing in the event of a survival situation. You wouldn't use a mushroom knife to construct a shelter, right? Extreme example, but you get the point.
