Just about every survival minded person has preferences to include in their survival kit or bug out bag.

These range from the convenient to the essential – fire starters are essential, for instance, while including creature comforts, while important, are not.

What should every survival kit have as a minimum, however? If you are just beginning to prepare, that can be a very daunting (and expensive potentially) question.

Luckily, there are some basics that you can use as a foundation to build off of and with a little bit of planning, you can secure these basics without breaking the bank. In fact, in terms of basics, you probably have most of the things you need already.
