Ideally, you never have to resort to accessing a survival cache, but sometimes, depending on the survival emergency you are facing, it is inevitable.

Given that having to access it is a rare occurrence, you want to make sure your cache is watertight, secure and easy to make – as well as inexpensive as possible!

Unless you plan on traveling light, storing supplies in a cache ahead of time and accessing it as you go (sort of “living off the land”,) having to access your survival cache means something drastic happened and you cannot access your normal survival kit or food supply.

That is why you want your cache to be hidden, secure and watertight.
